Nollaig

MUSICAL BACKGROUND
Nollaig, born in 1977, comes from Dungiven, County Derry in the Northwest of Ireland. It is a town steeped in Irish culture and heritage. Nollaig's parent's Anne and Francie Brolly are a famous singing duo from the area. Her father Francie, a songwriter, was the music and Irish teacher in the local school and was at the heart of the Irish cultural revival that took place there. Anne Brolly, her mother, won the All-Ireland Fleadh for traditional singing and toured the world with Comhltas Ceolteoiri Eireann. Under these influences, Nollaig grew up to be an accomplished musician and performer and a fluent Irish speaker. Her parents toured Ireland and the United States' many folk festivals and as young as 11, Nollaig was playing her part on stage.

MUSICAL TRAINING
Nollaig is classically trained in piano and flute and a self-taught irish harpist.

Royal Academy Of music, Grade VIII with distinction( Flute) (1996)
Ulster College of Music Wind Award 1996.
All-Ireland 'Slogadh' Competition1991/92 Member of Irish Traditional Group 'Cairde' that won the coveted senior traditional group title. Ulster Television made a documentary about their talent and success.

TOUR HISTORY
On a tour through parts of Europe in June 1997, esteemed Irish journalist and author Tim Pat Coogan had this to say,
" Nollaig, possessed a voice of such sheer beauty that whenever she began to sing to her own accompaniment, the audience, was instantly transfixed into attentive silence".

New Zealand, August 2000, Nollaig along with her sister, Aine, their parents and legendary singer Leo McCaffrey toured the North Island.
North America
Pittsburgh, Sept. 2000 The Pittsburgh Irish Festival and in March 2001, Saint Patrick's Day Festival, Pittsburgh.
San Diego, March 2003, Saint Patrick’s Festival.
South America
Argentina, Jan. 2004 Nollaig performed at an International Folk Festival in Cordoba along with acclaimed folk guitarist Fernando Pippino to a 3000 strong audience and together they also performed at a sell-out concert in Ucacha (Cordoba).
